User Profiles
User profiles in Anonymate serve as your digital identity within the platform. Depending on your chosen mode (anonymous or public), your profile can either be a temporary pseudonym or a persistent online presence. This document explains how profiles work, how to customize them, and how to manage your privacy settings.
Anonymate's unique dual identity system allows you to maintain both an anonymous and a public profile. You can switch between these identities at any time, giving you complete control over how you present yourself in different contexts.
Profile Types
Anonymate offers two distinct profile types, each with its own characteristics and use cases:
Public profiles in Anonymate are persistent identities that allow you to:
- Build a following and establish a reputation
- Customize your profile with a username, bio, avatar, and cover image
- Showcase your content in a chronological feed
- Receive verification badges and other recognition
- Connect with other users through follows and direct messages
Your public profile is ideal for content you want associated with your online identity, such as creative work, professional insights, or community building.
Anonymous profiles in Anonymate provide a way to participate without revealing your identity:
- Your real identity and public profile are completely hidden
- You're assigned a temporary identifier that changes with each session
- No content history is maintained or displayed
- You can't be followed or directly messaged
- You can still interact with all content through reactions and comments
Anonymous profiles are perfect for sharing sensitive thoughts, asking questions, or participating in discussions where you prefer to maintain privacy.
Switching Between Profiles
You can easily switch between your public and anonymous profiles at any time:
- Tap the profile icon in the navigation bar
- Tap the mode toggle switch at the top of your profile screen
- Confirm your choice in the dialog that appears
When you switch modes, the app interface will update to reflect your current identity. Content you've posted in one mode remains in that mode and isn't visible when you're in the other mode.

Privacy and Visibility Settings
Anonymate gives you granular control over your profile's privacy and visibility. Here's how to manage these settings:
Blocking and Muting
Anonymate provides tools to control who can interact with you:
- Blocking: Prevents a user from seeing your profile, posts, or contacting you
- Muting: Hides a user's posts and comments from your feed without them knowing
- Restricted Mode: Limits a user's interactions with you without fully blocking them
To block or mute a user, visit their profile, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and select the appropriate option.
Profile Content Management
Managing the content associated with your profile is an important aspect of maintaining your online presence:
Content History
For public profiles, Anonymate maintains a history of your posts, comments, and interactions. You can:
- View your content history by visiting your profile
- Filter your content by type (posts, comments, likes, etc.)
- Delete individual posts or comments at any time
- Archive posts to hide them from your profile without deleting them
For anonymous profiles, no content history is maintained or displayed. Each session starts fresh, and your anonymous posts cannot be traced back to your account.
Content Deletion and Account Removal
Anonymate gives you full control over your data:
- Delete Individual Content: Tap the three dots on any post or comment and select "Delete"
- Bulk Delete: Go to Settings > Privacy > Content Management to delete multiple items at once
- Account Deactivation: Temporarily hide your profile and content
- Account Deletion: Permanently remove your account and all associated data
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data, including posts, comments, and profile information, will be permanently removed from our servers after a 30-day grace period.
Profile Security Best Practices
Protecting your Anonymate profile is essential for maintaining your privacy and security:
Strong Password
Use a unique, complex password that you don't use for other services.
Two-Factor Authentication
Enable 2FA in Settings > Security to add an extra layer of protection.
Regular Privacy Checks
Periodically review your privacy settings to ensure they match your preferences.
Session Management
Review and log out of active sessions on devices you no longer use.
Login Alerts
Anonymate can notify you of suspicious login attempts:
- Go to Settings > Security > Login Alerts
- Enable "Notify me of new logins"
- Choose your preferred notification method (email, push notification, or both)
You'll receive an alert whenever your account is accessed from a new device or location, allowing you to quickly respond to unauthorized access attempts.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, other users cannot tell when you switch between modes. Your anonymous and public activities are completely separate, and there's no way for users to connect your anonymous activity to your public profile.
Your followers are associated with your public profile only. When you switch to anonymous mode, your followers won't see your anonymous posts in their feed, and they won't know you're active on the platform anonymously.
Currently, Anonymate allows one public profile per account. However, you can use the anonymous mode as an alternative way to participate without revealing your public identity.
To apply for verification, go to Settings > Account > Verification. You'll need to provide some form of identification to confirm your identity. Verification is typically granted to public figures, creators, and organizations to confirm authenticity.
When you delete your account, all content associated with both your public and anonymous activities will be permanently removed from our servers after the 30-day grace period. However, since anonymous posts are not linked to your account in our database, they're effectively orphaned even before account deletion.
